REBATE

home efficiency rebate program

On July 15th, 2024, Enbridge Gas launched the new Home Efficiency Rebate program for Ontario homeowners, offering up to $5,000 in rebates for energy efficiency upgrades, including comprehensive home insulation. This initiative follows the successful Canada Greener Homes Grant program, co-delivered by NRCan and Enbridge Gas, providing significant support for homeowners to enhance their home's energy efficiency.

Since the conclusion of the Canada Greener Homes Grant in February 2024, homeowners have expressed a strong demand for a new rebate program to facilitate affordable insulation and energy efficiency retrofits. We are pleased to guide you through the new program and highlight its potential benefits for your home.

Insulation and Air Sealing Rebates

The Home Efficiency Rebate program offers substantial rebates for insulation upgrades and air sealing. The maximum rebates for each area of the home are as follows:

  • Exterior Wall Insulation: Up to $3,600
  • Attic Insulation: Up to $1,500
  • Basement Insulation: Up to $3,500
  • Crawl Space Insulation: Up to $1,200
  • Exposed Floor Insulation: $300
  • Air Sealing: $180

The Impact of Energy Efficiency Rebate Programs

Energy efficiency programs, such as the new Home Efficiency Rebate and its predecessor, the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG), play a crucial role in making our homes and communities more energy-efficient and cost-effective. Data from NRCan regarding the CGHG program underscores the potential of these initiatives:

  • Widespread Participation: Over half a million Canadians applied for the CGHG in just three years. Although the new Home Efficiency Rebate is exclusive to Ontario, it reflects a strong public interest in home energy improvements.
  • Significant Energy Savings:  Homeowners who received CGHG grants are now saving an average of $386 annually on their energy bills, contributing to financial relief and reduced overall energy demand.
  • Environmental Impact: Each home upgraded through the CGHG program reduced pollution by an average of 1.2 tonnes annually, equivalent to removing nearly 60,000 cars from the road.

With the launch of the new Home Efficiency Rebate program, Ontario homeowners can access rebates for their home insulation upgrades, providing efficiency improvements and reduced energy costs as the hot summer ends and colder weather approaches.

Taking Advantage of the Program

The Home Efficiency Rebate program offers a valuable opportunity for Ontario homeowners to enhance their home's energy efficiency. By investing in insulation upgrades and air sealing, you can achieve a more comfortable living environment, lower energy consumption, and reduced utility bills.

To qualify for these rebates, you must be an Enbridge Gas customer at the time of the pre- or post-work energy audit. This audit must be conducted by an energy advisor recognized by Enbridge Gas as qualified to perform audits for the program. Additionally, at least two eligible upgrades must be completed to qualify for the program.

If you are an Enbridge Gas customer, we recommend scheduling a free assessment from GWC Foam Insulation before your pre-work energy audit. This will provide you with a no-obligation quote for insulation upgrades, allowing you to determine the overall cost of your insulation improvements, including the rebate benefits from the Home Efficiency Rebate, before committing to the pre-work energy audit.
